I've long maintained that when there's a big scare blitzing the media, merely follow the money and you'll find out who's responsible.
And just who profits.
So. Check this out:
ATLANTA - The last time the government embarked on a major vaccine campaign against a new swine flu, thousands filed claims contending they suffered side effects from the shots. This time, the government has already taken steps to head that off.
Vaccine makers and federal officials will be immune from lawsuits that result from any new swine flu vaccine, under a document signed by Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius, government health officials said Friday.
Since the 1980s, the government has protected vaccine makers against lawsuits over the use of childhood vaccines. Instead, a federal court handles claims and decides who will be paid from a special fund.
The document signed by Sebelius last month grants immunity to those making a swine flu vaccine, under the provisions of a 2006 law for public health emergencies. It allows for a compensation fund, if needed.
So much for their ranting...
Exclusive: PETA’s Pet Killing Program Set a New Record in 2008
Public Records: PETA Found Adoptive Homes for Less than 1 out of 300 Animals
Animal lovers worldwide now have access to more than a decade’s worth of proof that People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) kills thousands of defenseless pets at its Norfolk, Virginia headquarters. Since 1998, PETA has opted to “put down” 21,339 adoptable dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens instead of finding homes for them.
My cell phone is at home.
Awhile back, I posted about my officemate's encounter with a sports figure who is now in the design business. Nadine and her hub, Jeff, will be on A&E this Saturday as their master bedroom is transformed from "boring" to "inviting." The whole process was a hoot, and not like anything in real life.
Nadine has no clue what the show is going to be like. She didn't see the finished cut. It'll be a surprise. I called her tonight and told her about the description I found about the show. She laughed hysterically. Here's the blurb:
KeysKeyshawn Johnson: Tackling Design: 02 - Nadine and Jeff's Homeowner Holding Keyshawn's patience is tested when he tries to help Jeff and Nadine transform their boring master bedroom. They don't have a clear vision of what they want and can't seem to agree on anything. Keyshawn quickly finds that getting this couple to make a decision isn't easy, and emotions hit the boiling point**. Despite delays, the design team presses on as best they can and Keyshawn is eventually able to create a warm, inviting space that Jeff and Nadine love. TVPG | cc

UPDATE: It's on @ 12:30 here in ValleyScorch. Quoting Nadine of South Africa, "I know I'm going to look like a real bitch. Because of that wall."
I can't wait to see it.
** this may be where Nadine tells the designer, "Jeff has no taste." LOL!!!
Bleah. Time to hook up my bedroom air conditioner. I've put it off too long. Alternately hydrating and sweating today.
So.
Here's a purple chair:
I bought these at Ikea about 6-7 years ago. Four of them to set plants on; blue, red, yellow and green. They're kid's chairs @ $5 each. All the paint's flaking off and they're warping a little from the elements, but a new coat of paint is all they need. The next three will be orange, bright yellow and turquoise.
Oh. I have this giant pepper plant. It was part of the thousand-seed extravaganza and it's hung on all these months. It's huge, and has not produced a single pepper. It seems I have too much nitrogen in the soil. Nitrogen? Ah.
The family of 'possums that lives in the woodpile comes out at night to poop along the planters and IN the planters. I guess this has been going on for a few years. The remedy? Carbon, says the garden experts.
I took a handful of untreated charcoal briquettes and put them at the base. Fingers crossed.
Hope your Sunday is good.

Hmmm. But I AM number-challenged.
Try it:
(Landladies?)
I have one. She's this quirky dame who I happen to like very much.
She's a former ballerina, choreographer, teacher, talent agent and now a recently-retired current traveler.
When I moved here, she stressed that this is a protected historic neighborhood but I had free reign in regard to what I wanted to do with decorating, etc.
But. #1: She asked that I get permission if I wanted to knock down a wall or anything. #2: Don't touch the wallpaper in the kitchen/dining room (tell you later).
Cool.
After painting the little garden planters in The Two Colors, I used the leftover paint for this:
I don't know if The Landlady has noticed. She's an artiste, though. She'll understand.
Then I found a forgotten can of leftover purple.
So far:
Two more purple blocks.
I'm thinking two more purple and then a couple of yellow.
